Within Newfoundland and Labrador midwives, in order to complete registration with NLCHP, Midwives must become members of the Association of Midwives of Newfoundland and Labrador. This will enable them to receive Professional Liabiltiy Insurance, a requirement for registration. The Canadian Midwifery Regulators Council (CMRC) is a network of midwifery regulatory authorities from Canadian provinces and territories where midwifery is regulated. The midwifery regulatory authorities are mandated through provincial or territorial legislation to ensure the protection of the public in their respective jursidictions. As such, regulators establish, monitor, and enforce midwifery registration requirements and competency standards for practice in their respective province or territory.
